Purpose Always Transcends

By James M. Rink

Purpose transcends chaos, confusion, complexities and the challenges of life.

If you are overwhelmed, perhaps you need to focus your time and energy on living your life’s Purpose to transcend your obstacles.  If you or someone you know can relate, please read and share this blog.

I believe your life has a Purpose.  Can you simply state what it is?  You can’t live your life’s Purpose if you don’t know what it is.

Most people do not know what their Purpose is or can state it.  They may have a desire for Purpose and to help others but too often spend their time chasing after a bunch of different things, like randomly changing jobs, careers or relationships hoping to discover what their Purpose really is.   Few ever find their Purpose this way.

My father found himself at 79 years old and on his death bed and questioning if he lived his life the way it was intended to be lived.  He did not clearly know his life’s Purpose.

I don’t want you to have to wrestle with this question at the end of your life.

The easier, smarter, and wiser plan is for you today, to pause and step back from your life to discover and define your life’s Purpose.  Then, go live it.

This is my hope for you.  Let’s discover and define your life’s Purpose and let your Purpose transcend you above your life’s challenges and to a better life of opportunities and your dreams.

Here is my story…

In my early 30s my career hit a peak.  I had a quick rise of career successes in my 20s.  Then in my early 30s I realized I was a big fish in a small pond.  My business hit the ceiling of my high level of status in a very small industry.  As the big fish in a small pond, I needed to get to the ocean of new opportunities and a new bigger business sector.

A friend recommended the book, ‘Built to Last’, an exhaustive 7-year study of 18 visionary businesses and its leaders versus 18 competitive companies.   The case study included Visionary Businesses of Disney VS competitor Columbia, Nordstrom VS competitor Melville, Wal Mart VS competitor Ames.

My key take away lessons from ‘Built to Last’ study…

  1.  Visionary Business Leaders all wrote founding Purpose Statements, a reason of existence beyond Profits.  These leaders knew the value of Purpose and to clearly state it.

  2. Visionary Business Leaders all wrote founding Values declarations to protect their Purpose.

  3. Visionary Business Leaders all had big goals to intentionally live the Purpose of the company.

  4. Visionary Businesses with Purpose are 6X more profitable than their competition.

  5. Thus, to dominate the competition it is smarter to Pursue Purpose VS Pursuit of just Profits.

Purpose always Transcends and leads to greater Profits

My results within the first year of living my Purpose at work saw my gross revenue increase by 3X and net revenue by 2X.  Within 5 years, my gross revenue grew 20X and 10X Net.

Do your math for yourself based on your current income or revenue.  Do you like the number you see?

This is a business, career and lifestyle strategy for you and your life.

Here is the strategy.

Studying Business Purpose Statements, I discovered a pattern.  Purpose Business Statements includes words of Feelings put to Actions and connect to People.

With different font styles to help, notice the FEELINGS, Actions and People words in these Purpose Statements.

Disney’s Purpose is to make People HAPPY

Southwest’s Purpose is Connect People to what is IMPORTANT in their lives through FRIENDLY, RELIABLE and low-cost air travel

Sony’s Purpose is to experience the JOY of advancing and applying technology for the BENEFIT of the public

Mary Kay’s Purpose is to give unlimited OPPORTUNITIES to women

This is the strategy I used in writing Purpose of You’s formula to help you define Your Life’s Purpose Statement.

FEELINGS + Actions + People = Purpose

Purpose Always Transcends through business challenges.  In the 25 years since I started living my Purpose, my business has seen many disruptions…

-2000’s shrinking of the music, television cable and broadcasting business as consumers moved to digital platforms.

-The 2008 real estate collapse and the Great Recession.

-2020 COVID shutdown.

-Personally, I have had my core values trespassed and violated.  Those core values protect my Purpose.  I have seen the ugly side of greed, abuses of power and all kinds of deceitful business practices.

Yet, Purpose Always Transcends.

Earlier in this blog I mentioned my father and his final questions about his life and his Purpose. To help my dad, I told him that he was one my Greater Good Influencers.  My father was always a voice of hope, help and happiness.

My Purpose is to communicate hope, to help people and to make people happy.  My dad influenced me so I can influence others for a greater good.  These words gave my father peace in knowing that his legacy lives on.   Purpose Always Transcends.
